Olymel L.P. has played a leading role in implementing the Food Safety Enhancement Program (FSEP) and HACCP standards, since all its plants were recognized as being in compliance with safety standards even before the FSEP/HACCP program became mandatory on November 29, 2005.
Since this date, all Canadian federally registered establishments are required by law and by the Meat Inspection Regulations to implement a FSEP/HACCP system before beginning operations.
Complying to this programme allows these companies to take advantage of the many export privileges that are key to accessing international markets.
Olymel L.P. also actively participates in the works of various national organizations, such as the Canadian Meat Council, the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council and Canada Pork International.
Thanks to its long-standing and active participation in various pilot projects carried out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), such as the Poultry Inspection Program, Olymel L.P. was one of the first to help improve and implement poultry inspection systems in Canada. Olymel L.P. was also the one to set up the CFIA's inspection program for the hog industry based on HACCP specifications. It plays an active role in the program's various pilot projects and evaluation stages.
