OLYMEL ANNOUNCES THE DEFINITIVE CLOSURE OF ITS ST-HYACINTHE PLANT

News

Olymel's management regrets to announce the closure of its pork processing plant located on St-Jacques street in St-Hyacinthe. The 107 employees still actively working in this facility's melting, storage and packaging operations have been notified about this decision and have received a 12-week notice of termination, in accordance with the provisions of Quebec's Act respecting labour standards. The plant will continue to operate until February 17, 2023, which is the scheduled date for the facility's definitive closure. All employees will be offered the opportunity to be relocated to other Olymel facilities in the region. Back on July 8, Olymel had announced a reduction in the plant's packaging operations.

OLYMEL ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT STAFF REORGANIZATION

Saint-Hyacinthe, Tuesday, October 18, 2022 - Olymel's management announces its decision to eliminate 177 management positions. Of this number, 120 positions became open in recent months, whereas 57 current employees are affected by this decision. The 57 affected employees were notified yesterday and received layoff notices. OLYMEL APPOINTS AN OFFICER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACT RESPECTING THE PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR

Olymel’s management, in compliance with the new provisions of the Act respecting the protection personal information in the private sector in Quebec, has appointed Louis Banville, Vice President, Human Resources, as the officer in charge of applying and implementing the Act within the company. Olymel’s Board of Directors ratified this decision on August 23.

THE CANADIAN MEAT COUNCIL HONOURS RÉJEAN NADEAU

News

The Canadian Meat Council (CMC), a major Canadian organization, paid a moving tribute to Réjean Nadeau, former Olymel President and CEO, by posthumously awarding him its Chair Award. The tribute was part of CMC’s 100th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Ottawa on Tuesday, June 14, attended by CMC members and representatives from across the Canadian meat industry. Réjean Nadeau succumbed to cancer on October 14, 2021, after having been at the head of Olymel for more than 25 years.

OLYMEL OPENS A CENTRAL MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY

News

After a long development process, Olymel has taken a new step in improving quality control by setting up its own central microbiology laboratory. The existing infrastructure of its plant in Ange-Gardien, Montérégie, in which the company invested, will house this new entity's activities. The Ange-Gardien facilities were automated and its equipment upgraded to PCR technology, which will make analysis methods even more efficient and increase information traceability. This laboratory is licenced by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
